Alice Lloyd Eagles Volleyball wins thriller in Mideast Regional Tournament over Welch College; advance to finals

Pippa Passes, KY: On November 11th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles (7-26) hosted the Welch College Lady Flames (10-8) in the semi-final round of the Mideast Regional Tournament. In a hard-fought match, ALC would pull out the big 3-1 victory.

In the opener, the visitors pulled out to a slight lead and managed to repel all Eagle efforts to change the score. The Tennessee squad would take the game, 25-21.

Game 2 was a nail biter as the two combatants traded scores. Later, the Flames pulled out to a 22-19 lead and appeared on the verge of victory only to see the hosts, sparked by a trio of kills from Jadyn Hall, roar back to take the game, 27-25.

In Game 3, the fans were treated to another nip-and-tuck affair as both teams displayed a ton of grit. Welch slowly crept ahead 23-20, only to watch the Pippa Passes posse respond once again with a 6-2 run to roar back and win, 26-24.

Game 4 saw the Lady Eagles take a small 6-5 lead and extend it to a 15-9 lead.  Later, the Caney Creek crew led 23-16, but saw Welch score 6 unanswered points to get within a single point, 23-22. Happily for the home fans, an error from WC and a kill from Christa Amburgey delivered the game for ALC and sealed the match.

For the contest, Kyleah Ward (12), Amburgey (11) and Hall (10) provided the kills, while Rose Scotello delivered 30 huge assists. Camryn Thompson registered a pair of service aces while. Gracie Gibson came through with 21 digs and Scotello chipped in with 15.

The Lady Eagles now advance to the championship match on Tuesday, November 12th, where they will face top-seeded Boyce College. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCCAA DII National Championship.
